DENVER, NC (September 25, 2017) - This past weekend at the 33rd annual Dodge NHRA Nationals, NHRA Rookie Tanner Gray continued to add to his round wins and overall successful season. Saturday and Sunday at Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, PA saw sold out crowds and warm temperatures.
The 18 year old racer would qualify third heading into Sunday's race day. This would mark the second race day in a six series playoff in the Pro Stock Mello Yello Championship race.
First round at Maple Grove, Tanner Gray would go head to head with part time driver Larry Morgan. The Gray Motorsports horsepower would outrun Morgan giving Gray the first round win.
“It’s now the second week of the countdown and this is the type of pressure I thrive on," Gray said. "The competition is heating up and I’m thankful to get to compete with the equipment and the team I have.”
The second round matchup would feature a repeat of the previous Carolina Nationals final; Tanner Gray versus longtime family friend and World Champion Greg Anderson.
The race was over by the time Gray made it to 330 feet. His Gray Motorsports Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro would shake the tires, allowing Anderson to take the stripe.
“I am so thankful for my guys," Tanner said. "They work hard to continue to provide me with the best possible car on race day. Even though today wasn’t our day, we still have a lot of racing left in the countdown.”
The Gray Motorsports team will head to Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL this weekend September 29 - October 1 for the third event of the six race Mello Yello Championship Countdown to the Championship.
