MOHNTON, PA (September 23, 2017) - NHRA Rookie Tanner Gray continues to amaze sold out crowds with his on track performance at the 33rd Annual Dodge NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. With 4 consistent qualifying passes, he will begin race day in the number 3 position.
The countdown to the championship Friday qualifying passes for the Gray Motorsport Valvoline Camaro team saw warm temperatures and did not lack in competition. The competitive 16 car field came out swinging during both sessions seeing a shake up in qualifying positions. Tanner Gray and Co. would put up their fastest pass of qualifying with 6.565 at 210.44 mph ultimately leaving the Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro team qualified 3rd.
“I wouldn’t say that my team is feeling the pressure now that we’re in the countdown," Gray said. "I think we are all on the same page. We know that the biggest competition is ourselves, and we need to remain focused in order to bring this championship home to Gray Motorsports.”
Saturday at Maple Grove Raceway saw a sell out crowd. With championship points on the line, the on track excitement would not disappoint NHRA fans. The Gray Motorsports team would put up impressive numbers yet again in Q3 and Q4 holding on to the number three qualifying position.
“We have great equipment," the 18 year old said. "Our guys put in work back at the Gray Motorsports engine shop. They are constantly finding power and our results out on the track are showing that. My Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro is running really consistent which makes me look good as a driver.”
