DENVER, NC (August 3, 2017) – For NHRA Pro Stock Rookie Tanner Gray, this season can hardly be categorized as a rookie performance. As the young Gray heads to the 30th Annual NHRA Northwest Nationals at Pacific Raceways in Kent, Washington, he brings with him 3 national event wins, one just as recent as this past weekend.
This will be the 16th of 24 events in the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing series and the 3rd of a 3 race series categorized as the Western Swing.
The youngest driver to win a national event in NHRA history is looking to add to his overall round win record of 28-12 and gather as many points possible towards the 2017 Mello Yello Pro Stock Championship. He currently sits 3rd.
“Coming off of a win in Sonoma gives my guys momentum leading into this back to back race weekend,” Tanner Gray said. “I come out to the racetrack expecting to win. My guys give me a great race car and it’s my job to be a competitive driver.”
This will be the rookie’s first appearance at Pacific Raceways as a Pro Stock driver. In the past he has supported his father, national event winner Shane Gray, at this particular event.
“I look forward to every race weekend,” Tanner Gray said. “This whole year has been a new experience for me, but with the same people I have been around almost my entire life. My crew guys are my family and they provide me with support weekend in and weekend out, and having my parents there every race weekend doesn’t feel like I am experiencing a typical rookie season.”
Mello Yello Drag Racing Series qualifying will feature two rounds at 2:30 and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 4 and the final two rounds of qualifying on Saturday, Aug. 5, at 1:30 and 4:00 p.m. Final eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6. All times are local and subject to change. (PST).
