ENGLISHTOWN, NJ (June 10, 2017)- Youngest professional driver to win a national event, Tanner Gray ventures to Old Bridge Township Raceway Park which is the 10th new racetrack of 24 on the Mello Yello Drag Racing Series for the 48th Annual NHRA Summer Nationals.
Friday afternoon qualifying, Tanner Gray managed to put up what was going to be his best pass of the weekend with an ET of 6.555 seconds at 211.59 mph.
"It felt good first pass to go out and run 2nd best of the session," Tanner Gray said. "Our Gray Motorsports Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro SS has been running consistent and my team has a really great handle on it's performance."
Q2, Tanner Gray would again prove consistent with an ET of 6.556 seconds at 211.79 mph.
“I messed up a little and got the chip on Q2," the history making Rookie said. "We could have been on the pole if I hadn’t. All in all I am very happy with the car."
Saturday, Q3, Crew Chief Dave Connolly decided to test parts ultimately leading to smoking the tires.
“During Q3, we wanted to test something with the clutch to improve future runs," Gray said. "We went in knowing shaking the tires was a very high possibility, in which we did.”
Q4, Saturday afternoon, the Gray Motorsports team would show consistencies yet again by putting up the 2nd fastest pass of the round with an ET of 6.596 seconds at 211 mph.
“Q4 we made a consistent run and were #2 of the session," Tanner Gray said. "I am looking forward to race day tomorrow. My Gray Motorsports Valvoline Chevrolet Camaro SS has what it takes to get to the winner’s circle and I am confident that my guys can get it done."
Tanner Gray has the opportunity to take the 2017 Mello Yello Championship points lead on race day and pass current points leader Bo Butner.
“Every point counts when you’re racing for the championship," Tanner Gray said. "Our main focus has been to qualify better and the past two weekends we have made progress.”
